Bindi Party 2012

Last night was the Bindi Party hosted by Julie Hutmucker. It was a great night with old friend & new ones.
I met some truly amazing women with inspiring stories.  There were several women who had adopted and were able to give me some great advice, there were others who won their battle with infertility.
Truly inspiring women!

Here are a few pics, more to come.

Do you want to look gorgeous, warm your heart and help build a family?

Thank you Julie Hutmacher for planning such a wonderful event. (Picture will be posted after the event)

Hope to see you there!

Do you want to look gorgeous, warm your heart and help build a family?

Please join us at our fundraising Bindi Party for Laura’s soccer coach, Dave Duraes and his wife Amanda. They need help to offset the cost of adoption.

June 29th, 4:30 – ?

8515 Green Island Cir, Lone Tree, CO 80124

Please bring $10 (or more) as a donation. It is an open house format and I have a make-up artist coming to do everyone’s eye make-up. I will be providing wine, water & pizza. If you want to bring an appetizer (if it is easy for you) please do.

Fundraising Goal #2

We are so grateful to all the people that helped us reach Goal #1. We have reached that goal and are making good progress to Goal #2.

Now that we have chosen our adoption advocate we are ready to start the adoption home study process.

What is the adoption home study process you ask?

It’s a 3-6 month process meant to:

  • Educate and prepare the adoptive family for adoption
  • Evaluate the fitness of the adoptive family
  • Gather information about the prospective parents that will help a social worker connect the family with a child whose needs they can meet
We will be interviewed several times by a social worker, be subject to home visits, medical exams, provide proof of income, background checks & provider references.

After all that the social worker puts together their report and either approves or denies us as adoptive parents.

The average cost for this service is between $1,000 to $3,000, we need another $1,000 to reach this goal.

Check out our fundraising page to see how you can help.

A Step Ahead Adoption Services

Dave and I had a meeting with Diane Hogan from A Step Ahead Adoption Services on Wednesday, June 13th.  It was a great meeting and we learned soooooo much about the process.  Diane Hogan is a wealth of knowledge and was willing to answer any questions we had no matter how ridiculous they were.

We are please to announce that we have found our adoption advocate!

Diane will help us with our home study, find us a match and help us through the finalization process.  We are looking forward to working with her.

We’ve reached Fundraising Goal #1

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Thanks to many generous people we have meet goal #1 and are on our way to goal #2 (more info coming soon on Goal #2).

It has been a long few weeks.  We’ve been doing lots & lots of research about the adoption process and still have a lot of questions.

We are so excited to say that we have scheduled a meeting with A Step Ahead Adoption Services (ASA) on June 13th to discuss their program and to ask as many questions as we can.  ASA has a great program in place and great success rates.  We are very excited about this meeting, it’s the first step of many to come.

ASA is not an adoption agency – instead they have a “network” of agencies and attorneys who work with ASA consultants to help families realize their dreams of becoming parents through adoption. By networking instead of signing on with one agency, we are opening the door to broader market.

How can you help you ask!!!!  To utilize ASA’s network we need to reach Fundraising Goal #1 of $3,300

Check out our fundraising page to see how you can help.  https://ahopefuljourneythroughinfertility.wordpress.com/fundraising/ – Please pass this along to everyone you know!

Dave’s Point of View

You have all read my feelings on our journey thus far, below are some of Dave’s thoughts.

Dave and I recently had to write letters for a grant we applied for.  Here are some excerpts from his letter.

“We have fallen on some rather rough times as of the last two plus years. These rough times have led us to this point, creating the need to apply for this grant. At this point adoption is our final option; we are ready to add to our family. We are the type of people who feel that there are children out in the world that need our help and we can create an environment that will help to nurture both sides of this relationship.”
“Let’s go back three years, we both turned 29 and felt like we were ready to start our family. We stopped all forms of birth control that we were using at the time; we both figured that we could be pregnant within six months. Well six, nine, twelve months pass and still nothing, at that point we decided to go see a Dr. As it turns out it was determined that my wife has a very low likelihood of ever conceiving a child on her own. This devastated both of us.”
“However now that we have started looking deeper into the entire adoption process we have come to realize that this is also not a feasible financial option for us. The fact that I am a seventh grade math teacher is a major stumbling block for us.”
“We simply can’t make our dream of adding to our family a reality without money that your organization could so graciously provide to us. I am not normally the type of person who asks for assistance on anything, but in this case without your help our dream will simply die. We are missing a key piece of our future family plans; we will always feel incomplete without a child to call our own.”
